Halloween Pillow

I made this pillow back on October 17th - a little sewing here and there throughout the day and it was done.  It's a shameless copy of the orange and black pillow on Cluck Cluck Sew - it was too cute not to!  Her pillow is more about the colors, while mine is a bit more busy and includes my tiny stash of Halloween fabrics.  But people . . . I loves it!

And, I discovered the golden hour.  I want to bathe in these pictures.  Is that weird?

I couldn't pick just one, or two, or three. 

It only took 91 pictures to get five good ones . . .

The back is Riley Blake Witch Hazel.  I wish I had a bolt of it.

It's going to be sad to pack away the pillow cover in a few days.  Maybe I'll have to make a Thanksgiving pillow next?

Christmas Pillows

Catch up installment #2:
Christmas Pillows & A Potholder

 Drop cloth pillow, 12"x16", Noel image done using iron on transfer paper.  I used the finished edge on the back to hide the zipper closure. 

Noel pillow #2 - printed image out, taped it to the window, and traced with a fine-tip Sharpie.  Then filled in with a Sharpie paint pen, set with a hot iron, and washed to make sure it wouldn't bleed.  Same drop cloth material and zipper on the back.

Double potholder - made using parts of several tutorials, but mostly this one from A Little Gray.  I did use a dish towel purchased from Wal-Mart, Insul-Bright, and batting as layers.  And regular double fold bias tape.  I quilted around each shape on the two hand pockets and quilted straight lines on the middle portion.

New Pillows

I think I finally like our master bedroom pillows. 

I made two new ones - they had been cut out and partially done for months, but I finally made myself finish them, and I think they will stay for a while.  The red shams came with our comforter, and the plaid pillow I made a while ago.  There were a few other pillows rotating in and out in the intervening months, but I never was quite in love. 

These are 20" square (bigger than the old "eh" ones) and are made from the curtain fabric.  The jumbo piping (PITA!) is made from a fabric that is the inverse of the main fabric.  All pillow fabrics are from JoAnn's. 

I think the new ones lighten up the bed a touch and tie the wall color and curtains into the bedding better.  The walls are Calm Air by Behr, and I love it.  It's a great golden yellow that doesn't get all glowy and funky. 

The dark matching furniture is starting to wear on me, but it's not going anywhere for a long time, and we paid good  money for it.  The artwork above the bed I like, but I feel like it needs to go on another wall and put something more substantial above the headboard - possibly a large "antiqued" canvas with our monogram?

Anywho, I'm liking these new pillows and am glad to have that project off my cutting table.

Bloggy Update

It seems to get harder and harder to update the blog these days.  Life is just that, life, and our temporary no computer at home situation has gone on longer than expected, so posts have been infrequent and sporadic (and will continue to be for a while longer). 

But here's what I've been working on over the past while . . .

I had a “fun” night a while back – I tried out some new things, didn’t work on any existing projects, just sewed what I wanted, which was to try out this block from the cover of the Spring 2011 Simple Quilts magazine.  I only made one, so I decided to add a border (to increase the end-size) and make it into a pillow.  I quilted it with a lot of straight lines (getting more comfortable with my walking foot) and just a touch of free-motion work (don’t look too close!).  Added an envelope back, and voila!  A 14” quilted pillow cover.

No More Naked Couch!

Well, kinda.

It has one pillow now . . .

But the couch still needs a (drop cloth) slipcover, and the pillow needs a bunch of friends.
